A FUND of £20,000 is to be made available to Warrington groups and organisations to help stage events and activities to mark the centenary of the First World War.
The borough council is developing a four-year programme of events and activities across the borough and has already arranged this year’s main event – a Proms in the Park concert featuring two military bands which will take place in the newly redeveloped Bank Park on Saturday July 19.
Chairman of the Warrington World War One Commemoration Task Group, Cllr Mike Hannon (pictured), said: “While the council and our partners such as Culture Warrington and LiveWire will be staging some high-profile events, we know there are also lots of creative and relevant events that local groups would like to organise.
“So we’re inviting them to apply for funding of up to £1,500 per application, and we’ve managed to set aside £20,000 for the four years that this programme will run.”
Groups and organisations can apply by contacting the council’s events manager Dave Maskery on 01925 442031 or at [email protected]
The Proms in the Park concert is being organised in collaboration with Warrington’s local regiment, 75 Engineers, and will feature the band of the Lancashire Artillery and the band of the 4th Battalion the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment.
