HIGH-FLYING Castleford Tigers ensured a split Easter weekend for Warrington Wolves, as Tony Smith’s men went down 40-6.
Following Good Friday’s demolition of Widnes, the Wolves went in to the game full of confidence, but were put to the sword by Daryl Powell’s men, who ran in seven tries.
Tigers centre Michael Shenton scored a hat-trick as the hosts ran in 22 unanswered second half points, having gone in 18-6 to the good at the break.
Daryl Clare got the scoring underway after 12 minutes, but Michael Monaghan’s converted score levelled things up at 6-6.
Shenton then snatched the first two of his tries in the last five minutes of the first half to put the Tigers in control.
It was a quickfire double 10 minutes in to the second half that sealed the game, Clare scoring his second and Jamie Ellis finishing a move off the back of a penalty.
At 28-6, it was game over, and Richard Owen increased Castleford’s healthy lead before the hour mark.
The scoring slowed in the final 20 minutes, but the home side did manage a seventh and final try, as Shenton crossed for his third seven minutes before the hooter.
