THE local cricket season gets under way tomorrow (Saturday) – and most teams in the Warrington area are playing.
Top team Grappenhall, skippered again by former Lancashire player Richard Green, will play Marple at Broad Lane hoping to make a good start to their second successive season in the Vivio Cheshire County League premier division.
Last year saw them challenging the top clubs for most of the season only to fall away towards the end.
Aussie all-rounder Josh McLelland, who caused problems for many batsmen with his pace is back with Grappers after a year of development “Down Under.”
Grappenhall 2nd travel to Marple for their opening game. They just missed out on promotion last year so will be hoping to achieve their goal this term under new skipper Matt Titchard.
Warrington will again be playing in division two after missing out on promotion last year. They travel to Weaverham for their opening game while the 2nd XI entertain Timperley at Walton Lea.
In the TACS Partnership Cheshire Cricket League, division two, Lymm Oughtrington Park travel to Woodford while the 2nd XI take on Lindow at Oughtrington Lane.
In the Cheshire Alliance division one, Glazebury travel to Holmes Chapel for their opening game hoping to improve on last year’s performance which, at one time, looked to be sending them down to the second division.
Appleton travel to Wilmslow hoping for a better season after indifferent form last term. Stretton travel to Ellesmere Port.
Rylands are at Frodsham in division two. Appleton 2nd tackle Frodsham at Lyons Lane.
Four Warrington sides – Appleton 3rd, Glazebury 2nd, Rylands 2nd and Stretton 2nd all have home games in division four. Appleton 4th travel to Capenhurst in division five.
