A 23-year-old man was jailed for 15 months today for causing the death of a Warrington man by careless driving.
Gareth Jones (pictured), of Cradley, Widnes was found guilty by a jury at Cheshire Crown Court at an earlier hearing but was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court.
He was also banned from driving for three years.
Motor cyclist Jack Bellis, aged 19, from Padgate, Warrington died in hospital from injuries caused in a collision between his machine and a Ford Focus driven by Jones at Runcorn in October 2012.
Following the collision Jack was taken to Aintree Hospital, Liverpool, but sadly he passed away.
Sergeant Neil Farnworth, of the Cheshire Police Roads Policing Team, said: “Today’s sentence is the conclusion of a lengthy and thorough investigation into the tragic death of Jack Bellis.
“Our thoughts are with Jack’s family and friends, and I hope this can bring some form of closure to them. I would like to thank all those involved in this case who worked tirelessly to bring about this result.
“This sentence should send out a very strong message to people that anti-social, dangerous and careless driving will not be tolerated by Cheshire Police, and we will prosecute those involved.”
