Lloyd Cole, Pyramid, Warrington

Lloyd Cole came to prominence as the lead singer and main songwriter of 80’s Top of the Pops regulars Lloyd Cole and Commotions, who appeared at Warrington’s Pyramid.
He relocated to the States in 1988 and has gone on to release 12 albums in a variety of musical styles.
Such has been the demand for tickets the performance has been moved from the studio theatre to the larger exhibition hall where the sellout crowd is treated to over two hours of exquisitely crafted tunes. Tonight’s show sees him present his immense cannon of work re-imagined as acoustic folk songs. Armed with just two acoustic guitars [which he tuned himself over the course of the evening]and no opening act, he treated the audience to 29 songs including hits ‘Perfect Skin’ ‘Jenifer She Said’ and ‘Lost Weekend’ and songs from his most recent album ‘Standards’ He’s an engaging and warm performer casually chatting and sharing anecdotes between songs. He makes a quip about it being ‘grim up north’ before telling us that he spent the previous evening in Stockton Heath which he found more bourgeois than bohemian. His voice is still stunning both emotive and rich at the same time. After the show Lloyd spent another twenty minutes in the foyer meeting fans and signing autographs, making it truly a night to remember for his devoted followers.
