THE Mayors of Warrington and Halton have honoured several local schools newly recognised as “Music Ambassador Schools”.
In a ceremony hosted by Accent, the Warrington and Halton Music Education Hub, at Warrington Town Hall, the two mayors presented awards to Newchurch Primary School, Culcheth, Park Road Primary School, Great Sankey, University Academy, Woolston, Palace Fields Academy, Runcorn and The Heath School, Runcorn.
As part of the ceremony John Sharples, head teacher at Sir Thomas Boteler CE High School and Helen Lea, head teacher at St. Peter’s RC Primary School Warrington, addressed the audience on the importance of collaboration between the schools and the Accent hub, and on the importance of sharing good practice among schools.
Mayor of Warrington Cllr Peter Carey and Mayor of Halton Cllr Margaret Ratcliffe then heard performances in the Mayor’s chambers by Year 6 children from St Peter’s RC Catholic Primary and St Margaret’s CE Primary and the Voluntary Aided Primary School choir and Year 2 children from St Peter’s Catholic Primary School.
Janice Pounds, Warrington Borough Council’s strategic lead for the Accent Music Education Hub, said: “Music Ambassador Schools are recognised for musical excellence. They act as ambassadors for Accent’s provision of instrumental and vocal tuition across Warrington and Halton, which reaches around 7,000 children every week.
“It’s important that this work is recognised so that great practices can be shared across the hub. We are proud to share this recognition with St Margaret’s CE Primary School, Culcheth Primary School, St Peter’s Catholic Primary School and Sir Thomas Boteler CE High School in
Warrington.
“I’d like to thank the Mayors of Warrington and Halton, and also Sarah Callaghan, Warrington Borough Council’s director of children’s and young people’s services, for their support. But above all I’d like to thank the children, teachers, head teachers, governors and colleagues at Accent for their hard work all year round and for making this awards ceremony such a memorable event.”
