Residents fight homes plan

RESIDENTS of a tree-lined road at Culcheth are fighting plans to build 11 properties on a site near their homes.
Developer Evoke Homes Ltd have submitted plans for the development on the site of the former Tithebarn at the end of Culcheth Hall Drive.
But residents believe the development is too big for the site and that the additional traffic it will generate will cause road safety hazards on the narrow road.
They have already organised one public meeting, together with residents of adjoin Lodge Drive and Cranwell Avenue when they were joined by local councillors Mat Smith and Chris Vobe.
The two councillors have pledged support to the residents’ campaign.
A number of trees have already been removed from the site but Warrington Borough council has placed an emergency Tree Preservation Order on others.
Cllr Smith said: “Our community has a history of residents coming together to put up a strong case against unwanted development. The meeting showed there was a great deal of concern over the plans submitted by Evoke Homes Ltd.
“The principle of housing on this land is not something we are opposed to – but the number of houses being suggested in these plans is rightly raising questions. There will only be one point of access to the 11 homes, on Culcheth Hall Drive. The Drive is a very narrow road, and we are concerned that the additional cars that this development would generate will have a significant impact on traffic in the area.”
Cllr Vobe said: “Residents have put forward a compelling case and Matt and I will be supporting their cause when this issue comes before the planning committee.”
