Delivery drivers block busy road

INCONSIDERATE delivery drivers are blocking a busy village road at peak periods, a councillor has claimed.
Cllr Matt Smith is calling for better enforcement along Culcheth’s Common Lane to stop the practice.
He says delivery vans regularly park outside shops to make deliveries instead of using nearby parking spaces.
At peak periods, they cause tailbacks of traffic.
Cllr Smith said he wanted the borough council’s enforcement team to ensure conditions attached to planning consents were adhered to.
He said:“What good is it having conditions attached to planning permission if they are not adhered to? Residents are rightly angry that these delivery vans are blocking a busy stretch of road at
peak times when dropping off their goods and supplies. The permission makes clear that loading and unloading outside the shops on Common Lane is not allowed.
“They are located close to a busy junction, with traffic coming from three directions.
“If these bigger vehicles continue to block drivers’ sight lines, we risk an accident. The council must be pro-active in ensuring that this does not happen.
“That is why I am supporting calls by residents for firm action to be taken by the enforcement team.
“In my role as chair of the Parish Council’s Law and Order committee, I have also requested that thought be given to extending the double yellow lines from the corner of Wigshaw Lane, so that it becomes unlawful for cars to park on this busy stretch.
“It is simply unacceptable that these drivers park so inconsiderately and cause these tail-backs. I have assured those residents who have expressed their dismay that I remain on the case, and will continue my discussions with the enforcement team in the coming weeks.”
