LYMM High school’s controversial Principal Angela Walsh has resigned with immediate effect more than nine months after she was suspended by the school governors pending investigations into a number of issues.
The school’s governing body have announced that they have accepted the resignation of Miss Walsh, with effect from the end of March.
It is believed she had been suspended on full pay.
Miss Walsh (pictured right) joined the school in September 2008 and hit the headlines within 12 months following the introduction of a controversial new school uniform policy, with pupils staging sit down protests and outrage from parents.
At the time of her suspension last June, Staff morale had been low for some time, with significant numbers choosing to leave.
Her Vice Principal Jamie Shiels, strategic director of community and finance, remains suspended pending ongoing investigations.
Last July the school governors drafted in “Super head” Executive Principal Tarun Kapur, who has a good track record in turning round troubled schools.
Chair of Governors Kieran Walshe said: “The school is doing really well, under the leadership of Tarun Kapur as executive principal, who will be continuing in that role.
“His work, with colleagues from the Dean Trust and with all the school staff, has made a huge difference. We want to build for the future on the very good OFSTED report the school achieved in December. Right now, the staff and students are very focused on getting the best possible exam results in the summer, and on a host of other activities like the forthcoming production of Midsummer Night’s Dream and many sporting and musical events.”
“Miss Walsh has resigned, without notice and with immediate effect. The school does not comment on employment issues in relation to individual members of staff, past or present. Governors take their responsibilities in this regard for the oversight of the school very seriously. ”
