TALENTED Electrical Installation students went head-to-head in an intercollege competition designed to showcase best pracetice in Further Education.
Organised by Chris Horne, Electrical Installation Lecturer at Warrington Collegiate, this exciting intercollege competition allowed three teams of top students from Trafford, Hopwood Hall and Collegiate College to compete against each other in an attempt to shine and bring home the trophy.
He said: “The concept of inter college competition is to give young students a platform to demonstrate their talent and encourage them to strive for excellence in their course and career. With Ofsted impressed with the idea, this competition is the perfect opportunity to link the practical work the students are doing at college with a real life working environment.
“As the competition is time based, the idea is to teach the students to manage their time effectively; a skill they can then carry through to their assignment deadlines at college and to the working world in the future.
“The students really benefited from the competition so it looks like becoming an annual event. It not only encourages the students to strive for excellence and fosters good working relationships between the colleges but it also opens doors for students and their future.”
Level 2 Electrical installation student, Luke Hill, aged 18 from Great Sankey, said: “It was a fantastic experience. Competing against other colleges encourages you to raise your game and improve your own practice. I’m hoping that I can gain an apprenticeship and this competition gives me the perfect opportunity to show exactly what I can do.”
