WARRINGTON based girl band ‘Solved’ has made it into the finals of The Printworks Unsigned, after competing in live auditions for the annual singing and live band competition.
The band comprising of Emma Jervis, Elle Morcom, Meghan Clifford, Georgia Williams and Megan Bradley, all aged between 12 and 15, beat stiff competition from some of the regions best performers after singing a rendition of ‘Ho Hey’ by The Lumineers.
‘Solved’ is one of eight finalists who have been chosen for The Printworks Unsigned, with the contestants now due to take part in the grand final this Saturday (April 12).
The winner of The Printworks Unsigned 2014 is to be chosen by an expert judging panel, plus celebrity judge Rowetta from Manchester band, Happy Mondays.
Commenting on the shortlisting on behalf of the band, their coach Lauren Kelly said: “All the girls attend Little Stars Stage School in Appleton, and have been singing together for one year.
“We spotted the competition on Twitter and thought it looked great. As the girls are so young, it was an exciting opportunity for them to compete against more experienced performers.
“The girls are absolutely delighted to be in the final, especially since the standard of entries was so high.”
‘Solved’ was joined by a total of 18 solo artists, duos and bands from across the region who all flocked to the The Pumpyard area within The Printworks for the live auditions, taking to the stage to perform cover songs and original material in front of a live audience and an expert panel of judges.
Dave Foran (Manchester Radio Online), Terry Snowden MBE (Heroes Project) and Phil Ireland (bass guitarist, Exit State) scored contestants on stage presence, crowd reaction and talent.
The top eight acts from the auditions have been uploaded to www.theprintworks.com, and are now open to the public vote, which will make up 25% of the contestants’ final scores.
Fred Booth, The Printworks Centre Director, says: “We’ve seen some exceptional acts again this year; well done to everyone who came along and auditioned in front of our expert-judging panel. As one of the highlights of the Manchester music scene, we’re delighted to be able to give a platform to some of the best musical talent that the North West has to offer, and we wish all of our finalists the best of luck for the grand final on April 12th.”
