Be part of a lasting legacy

OPPORTUNITIES to be part of a lasting legacy have arisen out of a unique art project in Warrington.
A commemorative sculpture dedicated to Warrington is currently being designed as part of last year’s events to mark the 20th anniversary of the IRA bombing.
The borough council is looking for businesses, individuals and community groups who would be interested in sponsoring the sculpture and would welcome any contributions.
Artists Andy and Sharon Shaw have been commissioned to create the sculpture which will be unveiled and presented to the town later this year.
During last year, Andy and Sharon worked with schoolchildren to create their own artwork based on the themes of “love, peace, hope and reconciliation”, and each piece is now part of an exhibition on display at Warrington Museum and Art Gallery.
Many of the children’s interpretations from the artwork will be reflected in the sculpture.
Deputy leader of the council Mike Hannon (pictured) who spearheaded the arts projects said: “In the aftermath of the 1993 bombing, children came together and created the 12 discs that form part of the River of Life memorial in Bridge Street. I think it is very fitting that 20
years on, the next generation plays a similar role in creating a lasting legacy for the town.
“This is something that is very dear to not only my heart but for many others here in our town and I hope that people or businesses come forward and play a role in this important, community project.”
