Man rescued from 60ft tree

FIRE crews were called out to rescue a man from a tree at Warrington – after he had climbed almost 60ft in an attempt to rescue a cat.
The incident was in Meeting Lane, Penketh – which had to be closed to traffic while the rescue operation went on.
Three appliances, a fire engine from widnes, and a fire engine and aerial platform from stockton Heath, were called to the scene, along with 10 firefighters.
After rescuing the man, unharmed, fire crews then brought the cat down to ground as well – apparently none the worse for its experience.
In a separate incident, two fire engines from Warrington went to a house in Alexandra Street, Bruche, where a cooker was involved in fire.
One hose reel jet was used to extinguish the fire, believed to be caused by an electrical fault. A ventilation unit was used to clear smoke from the property.
