SECRETARY of State for Education Michael Gove was given a robotics demonstration by pupils at Great Sankey High School as part of a tour of the school.
After being invited to Warrington by local MP David Mowat, Mr Gove was escorted on a tour of the school by head boy Benjamin Newlove and head girl Phoebe Williams. He also heard from executive head Alan Davies, head Paula Crawley and chairman of governors Andrew Bent about how a conversion to Academy Status had given the school much more freedom to deliver an outstanding education for pupils
Mr Mowat said: “It was a pleasure to welcome the Secretary of State to show him just one example of the outstanding teaching and learning that is happening in Warrington on a daily basis.
“Strong leadership and excellent teaching are combined at Great Sankey High to ensure that children in the area are getting the best possible start in life.”
Head teacher Paula Crawley said: “It was a pleasure to welcome the Secretary of State to Great Sankey High School. We were delighted to hear him say this was one of the best schools he had visited.
“This is testimony to the hard work and dedication of our outstanding staff and our amazing young people.
“He also visited our magnificent sixth form building and was complimentary about the curriculum being provided to our 400-plus students in the 6th form.”
Executive head Alan Davies added: “The Secretary of State made it clear that Great Sankey is an outstanding institution. I
am grateful for the work of the head teacher, Mrs Crawley and her dedication and vision of the school along with her senior team. It is with a great sense of pride that I am executive head at Great Sankey and am honoured to be part of such an amazing school.”
