PEACE campaigners Colin and Wendy Parry met with Prime Minister David Cameron at 10 Downing Street today to hold talks which will help secure the future of a pioneering peace programme.
Colin and Wendy were joined by Warrington South MP David Mowat and Dulwich & West Norwood MP Tessa Jowell to discuss the future of the Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Foundation for Peace and its Survivors for Peace programme.
In the Budget the Chancellor was able to find £150,000 to fund the programme for the next financial year and the Government has committed itself to “finding a permanent funding solution” for the programme.
The Survivors for Peace programme works with victims and survivors of terror attacks in Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Speaking after the meeting, David Mowat said: “Whilst the Budget announcement was welcome, we do need to get the Survivors for Peace programme on a more secure financial footing so that we don’t end up with the same situation next year.
“Following today’s meeting, I’m pleased that the Government appreciates the value of this programme and is working to find a permanent solution.”
Colin Parry said: “The meeting lasted thirty minutes and we agreed a range of actions that will secure our vital work in support of victims and survivors.
“Wendy and I are extremely grateful to David for helping facilitate this meeting and his active support of the Foundation.”
The talks took place just 11 days after the 21st anniversary of the IRA bomb attack on Bridge Street, Warrington, which claimed the lives of twelve year-old Tim Parry and three-year-old Johnathan Ball.
