Mother's Day make-over

FOUR lucky mums enjoyed a stunning pamper day indulging in relaxation and rejuvenation in time for Mother’s Day, courtesy of Media Make-up students at Warrington Collegiate.
Wire FM presenter Nicksy ran a competition, asking listeners to nominate their mums for the Friday treat, and newsreader Helen Keenan joined the pamper session at The Academy.
Mums enjoyed a beauty consultation with make–over, hair styling and blow dry and a manicure with nail polish and colour.
They also received a goody bag with a small gift and vouchers for the Academy Hair and Beauty Salons and Buckley’s, Warrington Collegiate’s own fine-dining restaurant.
Anne Tabiner-Shaw, lecturer in Media Make-up at Warrington Collegiate, said: “Every mum deserves a treat. The students have really enjoyed spoiling the Mum’s and making the day really special.”
Kathryn Weir and her Mum, Elaine Storey, described by her daughter as amazing, enjoyed a mother and daughter make-over. When Nicksy at Wire FM heard that Elaine has been looking after both her husband, after his stroke, and nursing Kathryn through radio therapy for a brain tumour, he immediately invited Kathryn to join her mum for the day.
Elaine said: “It was a lovely surprise, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed being pampered. It means such a lot to me. It was made extra-special because Kathryn came too.”
Emma Ratcliffe nominated her Mum, Janet Ashton, who despite losing her son in tragic circumstances, in 2012, has been a complete star, supporting her daughter by doing the school runs so she could work full time.
Mel Steer’s Mum, Sue Conroy, has put her life on hold to be a full time carer for her elderly grandparents and Mel wanted her to have something special for herself.
Mum, Christine Hughes, was nominated by her daughter, Caroline, as she has not been in the best of health after nursing her husband through illness. Caroline said: “Mum would do anything for me and my brother, we were so thrilled when she won. She thoroughly deserves to be pampered.”
Media Make-up student, 19 year old Hannah Edelston, sums up the day, saying: “We all enjoyed pampering the Mums who were all so lovely. It was a wonderful opportunity for me to showcase the professional skills I’ve gained on the course.”
