FORMER student Ashley Terron, now a world champion, returned to Warrington Collegiate to open the new brickwork area, named in his honour.
Now a 21-year-old world champion, Ashley went from being a young apprentice at the college to a gold medallist in five years, headhunted by his current firm and presenting to business leaders and leading politicians, including David Cameron and Nick Clegg.
The college has now created the Ashley Terron Brickwork area, Gateway to Excellence, in recognition of Ashley’s contribution to the college and construction. He was presented with a silver trowel by Principal, Paul Hafren.
The Principal said: “Ashley’s story encourages and inspires young people to step outside their comfort zone and continuously strive for excellence in everything they do. Ashley is incredibly energetic in supporting students at Warrington Collegiate through master classes, and mentoring as well as attending Open Evening to talk to prospective students about the vocational route to university and career success.”
Ashley was recently invited by Steve Morgan, chairman of Redrow Homes, to join the firm as Assistant Site Manager and act as an ambassador for Redrow’s training schemes. Redrow are also sponsoring Ashley to convert his HNC in Construction and Property Management to a degree at the University of Salford.
Ashley said: “I’m proud and delighted to have a building named after me. I wouldn’t be where I am today without my three years training at Warrington Collegiate so I’m delighted to be able to share my success with the college.”
