Getting engaged – with the NHS

AROUND 120 people decided to “Get Engaged” in Warrington.
They took part in a Warrington Clinical Commissioning Group event at Orford Jubilee Hub to increase public involvement with health and social care services.
Resident Mie Wall, who was at the event, said: “I think it’s been successful.
“My message to people is just basically get involved – there are plenty of organisations who want to hear from you.”
Warrington CCG is led by GPs and has a £239 million budget to commission NHS care for Warrington.
“Get Engaged” featured a market place in the Jubilee Suite for people to find out more about services.
There were also presentations from major NHS providers in Warrington.
Linda Agnew, director of corporate development at Bridgewater Community Care, told the event Bridgewater has nearly 200 patient partners. They share their stories, sit on interview panels, advise on staff training, and more.
Paul Steele from Warrington CCG gave details of the CCG’s network of Patient Participation Groups at doctors’ surgeries. He said: “Our governing body are keen to engage with people as much as possible.”
Dr Andy Davies, chairman of Warrington CCG, said: “I am always impressed when I hear from our providers at events like this.
“They are not perfect but what unites them is that they are aiming for perfection.”
People also had the chance to vote for their favourite photos from Warrington CCG’s photo competition about life with a long term illness or disability.
The market place gave people a chance to sign up with different organisations.
Elaine Packer, manager of Warrington Healthwatch, said: “We’ve recruited four people who want to be involved in our stakeholder board.”
There were stalls from numerous voluntary organisations.
John Wicks, Interim chief officer of Warrington CCG, said it was striking how strong Warrington’s voluntary sector is but he also noted it needs everyone’s support in a tough funding climate.
Warrington CCG plans to stage another engagement event aimed at young people in around six months time.
