New homes will bring traffic jams

NEW homes planned for the Omega site at Warrington will bring chronic traffic congestion to the area, a councillor has warned.

Whittle Hall councillor Keith Gleave believes the additional housing will add more than 2,000 cars to roads which are already severely congested roads.
The Liberal Democrat councillor said: “Labour are patting themselves and the developers on the back for providing a road through Omega.
“If they had listened to residents, as I have, they would have realised that the extra ousing will add in excess of 2,000 more cars to our already severely congested roads.
“There are already up to 800 heavy goods vehicle movements a day from the existing warehouse. The new developments will more than double this, adding the worst kind of low level particulate pollution from diesel engines.
“This only forms part of the development and no overall surveys of traffic movement are to be undertaken. In my opinion a survey would demonstrate the gridlock that will happen to the existing roads and the new one.
“The original plan for Omega was for no housing, so traffic could have been managed directly from the motorway. We should not be patting ourselves on the back for making residents lives worse.”
