Ministerial praise for Warrington school

EDUCATION and childcare minister Elizabeth Truss dropped in at Warrington’s Evelyn Street Primary School to see the after-hours childcare provision and to congratulate them on their test results in science and maths.
Evelyn Street is one of the top performing schools in Warrington for maths, with 80 per cent of its students achieving Level 5 or higher in 2012/13.
The school also provides flexible nursery places for younger children from 8am to 6pm, allowing more parents to return to work.
Warrington South MP David Mowat, who accompanied the minister, said:
“It’s always a pleasure to show off the outstanding work going on in Warrington, whether that be a business, a community group or a school.
“Not only is Evelyn Street already an outstanding school which gives local children the chance to get the best possible start in life, it is also pioneering new approaches to help parents manage both work and childcare.”
Liz Truss added: “It was great to see the high quality, flexible provision offered to parents in Warrington by Evelyn Street Primary.
“The Government is committed to the development of even more high quality places for childcare which is why we are encouraging school nurseries to open from 8-6 and offer more flexible hours for part time workers.
“I hope nurseries across the country take a look at the work done in the North West to see how they can expand and improve the provision they provide.”
