Council doing all it can on eyesore tyre wall

COUNCIL chiefs are doing “everything possible” to deal with the issue of an eyesore wall of tyres on land at Farrell Street, Warrington.
All legal remedies are being pursued, Cllr David Keane, lead member for the environment and public protection, told a meeting of the council.
He was responding to a question from Cllr Ian Marks who asked: “What powers does the council have to enforce the clearance of
these tyres and why is it taking such a long time for any powers to be enacted?”
Cllr Keane (pictured) said had served a notice on the owner-occupier of the land on January 23.
It required the tyres to be removed before March 6.
But the landowner subsequently appealed against the terms of the notice and the matter was considered by Warrington Magistrates March 5.
The court agreed to an adjournment of the case to allow the owner time to provide evidence in support of the appeal.
The appeal will now take place on May 21.
Cllr Keane said the council also sought to prosecute the owner of the land for displaying advertisements illegally on the site and again the case was adjourned to May 21.
Cllr Keane added: “The council are doing everything possible to address this issue, exploring all legal remedies open to us, to work around the limitations of the legislation in terms of the protracted timescales and ensure that the amenity of the area is protected in the best possible way.”
