Free events to get people online

A SERIES of free taster events are being held to help people learn more about using computers and the internet as part of the national Spring Online campaign.
The events will be held at BITS, the new community IT suite on Bewsey Park, between March 31 and April 4, by Golden Gates Housing Trust (GGHT), in partnership with Warrington Borough Council.
GGHT staff and local volunteer Digital Champions will be available at all of the sessions to offer a helping hand to anyone who attends. People who come along will get the opportunity to use the computers free of charge, ask questions and learn about how to access services online, prepare for interviews, search for jobs online, bank online, sell on eBay and control their cash.
Currently around 7 million people have never used the internet and of those around 6 million are aged over 55 years. (Source: ONS 2013). As such they’re missing out on the many benefits being online offers such as accessing a wider range of products and services, saving money and being better connected with friends and family.
Roy Smith, GGHT Chair said: “We know that for some people computers and the internet can be a little scary and that they often need a helping hand to get them started. We hope as many people as possible will come along to our Spring Online events and give digital technology a go.”
Everyone who attends will get the chance to win £200 in high street vouchers and chance to win an instant £10 shopping voucher on the day you attend a session. The first event will take place at 1.30pm on Monday 31 March and you can find out about other events by calling into the centre or visiting www.gght.org.uk/BITS
