UFO rock the Parr Hall

0

ORIGINALLY formed in 1969 as a space rock band, UFO metamorphosed into a harder edge proposition when a young Michael Schenker joined the band in 1973.
A succession of increasingly successful studio albums followed culminating in the top 10 live record ‘Strangers in the Night.’
The show pulls heavily from this album with songs such as such as ‘Love to Love’ Only You Can Rock Me and ‘Lights Out.’
The present lineup features original members Phil Mogg, vocals, Andy Parker, drums with Phil Raymond guitar/keyboards, along with Vinnie Moore, lead guitar and guest bassist Rob De Luca.
Front man Mogg, who revealed the band last came to Warrington in the 1970s to perform at the US Army Burtonwood airbase, appears a little world weary but at 65 can still throw the archetypal rock moves although he does have to ask for
the stage lights to be turned up to help him read the lyrics to newer material ‘Pushed To The Limit’ and ‘Making Moves’.
American guitarist Vinnie Moore has been with the band since 2004 and although he plays all the right notes in all the right places, his sound lacks the vitality and subtleties of Schenker, most notably on the epic ‘Rock Bottom’ which
brings the main set to a close.
The chant UFO,UFO, UFO, goes up and the band return for a triumphal encore of Doctor, Doctor, Cherry and Shoot Shoot.
The next big rock show at Parr Hall is the Buzzcocks on 11 April, full details available at www.pyramidparrhall.com
