Wolves suffer home defeat to Wigan

WARRINGTON suffered to a 12-4 home defeat to Wigan in a repeat of last season’s Super League Grand Final.
Liam Farrell and Blake Green were the Warriors’ scorers, as the away side taught Tony Smith’s side a lesson in how to play the wet conditions.
Smith bluntly summed up the Wolves performance as ‘poor’, and his players will not be arguing.
Halves Richie Myler and Gareth O’Brien looked short of ideas, and if it was not for the Wire’s hard-working pack, Wigan would have put many more points on the board.
The Champions went about their business with minimal fuss, and especially in the first-half, dominated for long periods.
At half-time they had an eight-nil lead through Farrell, and two Matty Smith goals, and in the second period the likes of John Bateman and Tony Clubb did not give their opponents an inch.
In the 50th minute a tired missed tackle from Simon Grix allowed Farrell to put Green in for a simple finish, and despite an interception score from Gene Ormsby on the hour, the result was never in doubt.
The Warriors move to a record of three wins and two losses from their five games so far, whilst Warrington must go back to the drawing board after their third loss of what is becoming a tough 2014.
After the game disappointed Wolves boss Tony Smith said his team had been poor with the control of the ball, especially in the opening half hour.

Pictures show Gene Ormsby who scored Warrington’s only points with an interception try.
