THE “day evil walked down the streets of Warrington” led to a lasting legacy with the pioneering work of the Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Foundation for Peace – which now 21 years on is ensuring “good has come from evil.”
These were the words of Warrington’s Mayor Peter Carey, (pictured above) as Warrington remembered the atrocity which claimed the lives of 12-year-old Tim and three-year-old Johnathan.
The Mayor was joined by Tim’s parents Colin and Wendy Parry, who helped create the living memorial to the two boys in the shape of the Warrington Peace Centre.
With the Government yesterday pledging the £150,000 a year to secure the future of the Survivors for Peace programme and other charitable donations in the offing, the unique charity has a bright future.
But Colin stressed that the future of the Peace centre had never been in doubt, with only one element ever at threat, which had now been secured following Chancellor George Osborne’s announcement in the budget yesterday.
Following a short service of remembrance on Bridge Street and a minutes silence, Wendy Parry collected water from the River of Life which was transported back to the Peace Centre to be poured on a tree of life planted 10 years ago.
A video interview with Colin Parry will be uploaded later.
