Work to start soon on sports ground

A TIMETABLE for improvement work on Culcheth’s Shaw Street Recreation Ground has been finalised.
Work will start this year on the car park and changing facilities – and the project should be completed in its entirety for next year’s rugby season.
Newchurch councillors Matt Smith and Chris Vobe are delighted with the news.
Cllr Smith said: “The work on Shaw Street Recreation Ground is long overdue, but this has been a project which we were determined to see implemented. That’s why we have been snapping at the borough council’s heels on a regular basis to ensure that the time and investment Newchurch needs will be delivered.
“The timetable that has now been put in place will ensure that the works are completed in time for the 2015 rugby season. This will make a huge difference to Newchurch, and the village as a whole. We particularly want to thank everyone who added their name to our ‘Refurbish our Rec Ground’ campaign, which helped us to demonstrate to the council the strength of local support for this project.”
Funding for the scheme has come from a bid to the borough council’s capital programme, and is made up of two parts – the car park and the changing facilities.
Work to the changing facilities will be implemented with a view to minimising the impact on users of the facility. Works on the car park – including drainage – will take place first with a summer implementation. Design for the revamped facilities will follow, and will be undertaken in agreement with the rugby teams who use them.
