Urban help build solid foundations for Blue Apple Heroes

WARRINGTON based residential and commercial building specialists Urban Building Projects teamed up with former Warrington Wolves’ wingers past and present to show their support for a new armed services charity which is setting up base in Warrington.
MD Carl Palmer, was joined by Wolves’ legend Mark Forster, who now works for the company as a joiner and current winger Chris Riley, to welcome Blue Apple Heroes to a new centre for the charity being renovated on an industrial site off Old Liverpool Road.
As well as helping renovate the building Urban have donated various items of office furniture, beds and computers to the charity.
The Blue Apples charity, which supports the armed forces community and their families past and present, was set up in 2010 by Ex Gunner/Paratrooper Mark Smith, who was undergoing treatment, at Combat Stress for Complex PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), and combat stress.
While being treated, he wrote a simple poem called ‘Blue Apples.’ Those few scribbled lines went on to touch many hundreds of Ex Servicemen and Women.
From this grew the Blue Apple Heroes Charity, that he founded in 2012, to help others who were suffering.
Blue Apple Heroes Charity supports and helps veterans, and their families, in the community with combat stress related illness and issues
By meeting with veterans and their families in their own home they look at what their needs are, and then we work on a plan how best to support them.
This might be anything from housing, to assisting them with counselling, employment, or just day to day living.
With a drop in centre at the gateway they offer arts and crafts on a daily basis, with a fortnightly day out.
They also have a gardening programme, where able veterans go and do other disabled veterans gardens, or retired people’s gardens.
