575 young people out of work

A TOTAL of 575 people in the 16-24 age group are currently out of work in Warrington – clear evidence of the need for the major youth unemployment initiative promised by Ed Miliband if Labour form the next government.
This is the view of Nick Bent (pictured), Labour’s Parliamentary candidate for Warrington South.
He says youth unemployment remains a serious concern in Warrington.
Labour promise is of that every young person out of work for more than 12 months will be given a paid starter job which they will have to take up or lose benefits.
Across Britain, thousands of young people still struggling to find work are not seeing any economic recovery at all, he says.
Under the Coalition government, the number of young people aged 18-
24 claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance for more than a year has doubled – from 28,300 in May 2010 to 56,100 today.
Labour’s announcement sets out for the first time that a Compulsory Jobs
Guarantee will be in the party’s manifesto next year and that it will be funded for the whole of the next Parliament – not just one year.
Mr Bent said: “Every young person deserves a chance to get on in life and make the most of their talents, and only Labour will
make sure they get that chance.”
The Conservatives have dismissed the jobs guarantee saying the sums do not add up.
