THE grief-stricken family of Valerie Pritchard, the woman who died tragically when her car plunged into the Manchester Ship Canal at Warrington, have been talking about their much-loved mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
They have paid tribute to a “lovely lady” who had many friends and a full social life.
The family have also praised emergency services and a member of the public who tried to rescue her from the canal.
Valerie (pictured), aged 72, from Grappenhall, died when her car entered the canal at Stockton Heath on Wednesday.
In a statement, the family said: “Our Mum, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother, Valerie Pritchard, aged 72, was tragically taken from us in a road traffic accident on Wednesday March 12.
“She was a lovely lady who always had a full social life, meeting with her many friends for coffee mornings, art class and going to her local club to watch Warrington Wolves with her partner.
“She was also a keen gardener and loved to spend time doing craft work. She will be greatly missed by all her family and her partner.
“The family wish to thank all the emergency and charity-run services that attended the accident, including the Police Constable and the member of the public who tried to help at the scene.”
Police are still investigating how Valerie’s car came to leave the road and plunge into the canal.
Anyone with any information about this incident is urged to call Cheshire Police on 101.
