Open day for young carers

YOUNG carers and their families are invited to an open afternoon at the carers centre on Sankey Street on Saturday 22 March.
WIRED young carers service is holding the day to raise awareness of the support available to young carers and in the hope of finding some hidden young carers who can benefit from the services.
The service is also raising funds on the day for future events, trips and activities. Anything raised on the day will be split between the young carers and young adult carers groups for trips and events. Fund raising activities will include tombola, raffle, face painting and temporary tattoos, bingo, a quiz, arts and crafts and there will be light refreshments.
On the day there will also be further information about what’s available to young carers in Warrington in terms of support, advice, activities and opportunities, from local agencies and council services.
Cllr Pat Wright, executive board member for health, wellbeing and adult services, said: “Caring for someone can be hard and often very isolating. A carer is someone who provides help and support to a partner, child, relative, friend or neighbour, who could not manage without their help. This could be due to age, physical or mental illness, addiction or disability.
“Many carers do not regard themselves formally as a carer, but just to be getting on with looking after a relative or friend as others would do in the same situation. We hope we find some hidden carers on the day as well as raise vital funds for future activities and trips.
“Children and young people that have caring responsibilities are often particularly isolated and young carer services offer essential access to breaks and support. There are various support groups in the town that can help carers, and in particular young carers, and we want to encourage families who don’t already use us to call in to the centre and see what support is on offer.”
All ages are welcome to the open day which is at 86 Sankey Street, Warrington, WA1 1SG. For more information please contact 01925 442 452.
