WARRINGTON is staging a wide range of events to raise money for Sport Relief – with runners, walkers and swimmers all taking part.
People of all ages – including the youngest school children – are expected to take part.
Sprinters and walkers can take part in the Sport Relief mile at Victoria Park on Sunday, March 23.
Participants can tackle distances from one mile to six miles and there will be entertainment and activities for the whole family including dancers, cheerleaders, local bands and stalls.
The borough council’s Active Warrington team is supporting this event and encouraging people to enter now at www.sportrelief.com, get sponsored and become part of a nationwide event.
LiveWire is hosting two events to raise money – a 12 hour spinathon and a swimathon.
The spinathon is on Saturday, March 22 at Orford Jubilee Neighbourhood Hub. Its free to enter and those taking part don’t have to complete the full 12 hours. For more information visit www.livewirewarrington.co.uk/sportrelief
A swimathon takes place on Sunday, March 23 at Woolston Neighbourhood Hub with swimmers able to tackle distances of 1.5km, 2.5km or 5km and take part either individually or as a team.
Visit www.swimathon.org or pick up a registration form from Woolston Neighbourhood Hub.
Culcheth Primary School is also running a large event at the school on Sunday March 23 with races starting at 10am. There will be refreshments, a range of stalls and entertainment for all the family.
On Tuesday April 8, children and families from the Sunshine Children Centre and Sandy lane Children Centre will set off on a sponsored walk around Orford Jubilee Park finishing with some songs and games and a teddy bear’s picnic.
Children and families can join the group and there is a £1 entry fee which will go to Sports Relief.
Cllr Kate Hannon, the borough council’s lead member for leisure, community and culture, said: “Engaging in sport and physical activity can be fun for the whole family and there is something for everyone to get involved in for Sport Relief. Just by signing up for the one mile and getting sponsors you will be helping to raise money which will transform the lives of people living here in the UK and in some of the world’s poorest countries.
“Much of the money raised this year will be given to the communities who have been affected by the flooding so the more people that sign up the better.”
Keith Maddock, head of neighbourhood and wellbeing at LiveWire, said: “We are really pleased to be involved in this year’s Sport Relief and want to encourage the people of Warrington to get active and spin, swim or run to raise cash to help change lives.”
