The ginger cat that's not so welcome!

NEARBY residents have lodged strong objections to plans to erect signs showing a picture of a ginger cat and the word “welcome” on a commercial building near their homes at Padgate, Warrington.
Animal charity Cat’s Protection is seeking planning consent to erect the signs at their headquarters in Elizabeth Drive.
There would be one over the main entrance, another at the gate and one attached to the wall of the building.
The charity won planning consent for single-storey offices and 46 cat pens at the premises in 2010 after earlier proposals for two-storey offices.
Neighbours say the signs are unnecessary as they are in a cul de sac with no passing traffic. They also believe the signs will be large and over imposing and obtrusive for local residents.
They also believed a three metre high picture of a cat will be a source of agitation to dog owners.
Poulton-with-Fearnhead Parish Council also opposes the application on the grounds the signs will be out of character with the area and will be obtrusive. They suggest a more discreet sign would be more appropriate.
Planning officers are recommending the signs – bearing a Cats Protection logo – should be allowed, pointing out that the entrance sign would be 25 metres from the nearest houses
