THE charity set up in memory of two young victims of the Warrington bombing which marks its 21st anniversary this month, is giving people the chance to win up to £25,000 in a new fundraising lottery.
The Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Foundation for Peace, founded by t12-year old Tim Parry’s parents Colin and wendy and supported by the parents of three-year-old Johnathan Ball, has launched the lottery to help fund their pioneering peace work.
Both boys were killed as a direct result of the IRA’s bombing of Warrington in March 1993.
The foundation carries out work nationally and internationally to try and prevent violent conflict, as well as working to support those affected by political violence and acts of terror.
To help the charity raise the funds it needs to do this valuable work it has now become part of the Unity lottery scheme run by Sterling Lotteries. Sterling runs Unity on behalf of charities all over the UK.
Players who enter Unity, pay as little as £1 a week for a unique six-digit number. Every Saturday the winning numbers are selected at random, giving players the chance to win up to £25,000. For every pound players spend 50p goes towards The Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Foundation for Peace.
Nick Taylor, chief executive of the Foundation for Peace, said: “Although many people may not think that terrorism is a direct threat to them, in the last year there were more than 8,000 terrorist incidents, meaning there is a real risk of terrorism affecting everybody. To keep our victims work going, we need to raise £5000 per month so we have set ourselves an ambitious target to gain 8,400 lottery subscribers to match the number of terrorist incidents in the world last year.”
Richard Dixon, managing director of Sterling, said: “We are really happy to welcome the Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Foundation for Peace into Unity. It is a great cause which does really important work both in the UK and all over the world. We are really looking forward to helping the charity raise the valuable funds it needs in order to do this.”
