WARRINGTON plumber Sharon Powers has been shortlisted as a finalist in the category of Tradeswoman of the Year at this year’s Women in Construction awards.
She is one of just eight finalists shortlisted from more than 250 applications.
Sharon is one of only two women out of 170 maintenance operatives at Golden Gates Housing Trust (GGHT).
She started with trust in 2008 as a temporary loft inspector and through hard work and determination she soon proved herself to be an excellent worker and team player and quickly secured a permanent position in GGHT.
She applied through the GGHT training programme to complete her plumbing apprenticeship.
Last year she became a fully qualified plumber and very soon after, applied for a permanent position as a Maintenance Operative (Plumbing) and was successful in being appointed.
The Women in Construction Awards celebrates its 8th year on March 26 and continues to provide a showcase for the brightest and the best female achievers in the UK construction industries.
The events’ 10 award categories not only honour the most outstanding individuals but also the organisations providing the opportunities and skills to redress the gender balance in an otherwise male dominated industry. The event will also raise money on the night for the Construction Youth Trust.
Angela Perry, GGHT director of property services said: “It has given me great pleasure to see Sharon develop and achieve her ambitions and she is great asset to GGHT. Being shortlisted is a fantastic reward for her hard work and dedication and we are all keeping our fingers crossed that she can pick up the award on the evening.”
