Jessica to climb Kilimanjaro

A HOSPITAL sports and technical instructor from Warrington is to climb Mount Kilimanjaro – “the roof of Africa” – to raise money for the charity Young Minds.
Jessica Mather will take part in the 10-day climb in June and through tackling such a physical and mentally tough challenge, hopes to inspire people who face barriers to physical activity and motivate them to achieve their goals.
Kilimanjaro stands 19,340 feet high and the total distance Jessica will cover is more than 15 miles.
She said: “I work with ladies who often find it difficult to find motivation to be physically active on a daily basis and have to motivate them. To be able to climb mount Kilimanjaro would inspire them as I am pushing my limits and would show with hard work and determination that you can reach goals you may never thought you could achieve. I am really looking forward to the challenge!”
Jessica will be taking the Lemosho route which will lead her through the Lemosho glades and Shira plateau to the summit which she will reach by torchlight.
The ascent will take seven days and the descent will be on day eight.
Young Minds is a charity committed to improving the emotional wellbeing and mental health of children and young people.
The organisation provides expert knowledge to professionals, parents and young people through its parents’ helpline, online resources, training and development, outreach work and publications.
