WARRINGTON company G&J Distillers has won the overall Food & Drink Award in the prestigious “Made in the North West Awards.”
As a winner, the company – formerly G&J Greenall’s – will go through to the “Made in the UK” awards dinner at Liverpool in July, which forms part of the International Festival for Business 2014.
G&J Distillers has been distilling Greenall’s Original London Dry Gin, since 1761 from its home in Warrington.
The gin is exported to more than 26 countries globally and is the second fastest growing standard gin internationally.
In their adjudication, the judges said: “G&J Distillers has combined having a rich heritage with continuing to innovate.”
They added: “The Warrington distiller and bottler of spirits has taken the ‘brand Britain’ message to the world.”
Joanne Moore, G&J Distillers’ master distiller, received the award on behalf of the company and said: “We are delighted to have won, particularly against such impressive North West competition. G&J Distillers has been distilling quality gin in the North West for over 250 years.
“We produce more than 60 per cent of the UK’s gin and 20 per cent of the world’s premium gin and as such are proud of the contribution that we make to the North West in terms of employment, products and exports.”
Warren Scott, co-founder of the Quintessential Brands Group, owners of G&J Distillers said: “As the oldest gin distillers in the UK we are delighted to continue to expand our business both in the UK and internationally and are particularly proud of Greenall’s Gin’s growth around the world.
“We are proud to have consumers all over the world enjoying our spirits, produced by a talented team based in Warrington. This award is recognition of our regional success in the North West and affirms our ambitions to become one of the leading international spirits groups in Europe.”
