Our past, our present, our future

CHILDREN from 20 schools across Warrington have produced artwork which has gone on display at Warrington Museum and Art Gallery.
The exhibition, called “Our Past Our Present Our Future” represents the schoolchildren’s thoughts about peace, hope, friendship and love and is connected to last March’s commemorative event which marked the 20th anniversary of the IRA bombing of Warrington.
Each school created a painting in a workshop led by artists Andy and Sharon Shaw.
The 20 paintings have been printed onto foamex and now form the exhibition which will be on display in the gallery until June 21.
All the work is the forerunner to the creation of a sculpture which will encompass some of the themes chosen by the children and will represent Warrington’s commitment to peace and reconciliation.
Cllr Mike Hannon, deputy leader of the borough council, said: “The artwork our schoolchildren have created is stunning and I have been inspired by their heartfelt thoughts and ideas about peace and reconciliation.
“Within Warrington, there is a real desire to ensure that we never forget the events of our past, including the tragic events that took place in Bridge Street on March 20, 1993. However, it is also important that we continue to look forward and continue to build a bright and positive future for our town.”
