WARRINGTON Disability Partnership is getting ready for spring with offers of relaxing breaks away in wheelchair accessible caravans or aboard a specially adapted canal narrowboat.
The charity has caravans for hire in North Wales – at Rhyl and Pensar – and day trips aboard “The Wizard” narrow boat on the Bridgewater Canal.
The caravans have all mod cons, including iron and ironing board; TV and DVD player; a microwave and a radio and cassette player. They have two bedrooms and sleep up to six people.
On-site facilities at Rhyl include a diner; launderette; tennis court; indoor swimming pool; kids’ club; cabaret club and arcade.
The Pensar site is small and quiet and would benefit those looking for an idyllic retreat to the Welsh countryside.
The Wizard is an adapted wheelchair-accessible narrow boat, which is 37 feet in length. It has ramps; a platform lift; central heating; an accessible toilet and tea-making facilities. It is crewed by friendly and experienced volunteers.
Phil Aikman, a volunteer support worker on The Wizard, said: “It is popular with groups from nursing homes; sheltered accommodation; carers’ groups; pensioners’ clubs and families with disabled young people.
‘A variety of trips on the Bridgewater Canal are available and can include stops where you can tuck into a pub lunch or fish and chips, but we also offer ‘bring a picnic’ trips.”
