AHEAD of this year’s elections Warrington Borough Council is urging people who haven’t yet registered to do so as soon as possible.
Local elections, and also elections to the European Parliament, will be held this year on Thursday 22 May. The latest people can apply to be put on the electoral register is 6 May 2014.
But there’s even more at stake than your vote, says the council. Alison McCormick, the council’s electoral services manager, said: “If you’re not on the electoral register you may not be able to get a credit rating. This could stop you applying for a credit card, a loan or a mortgage.
“And of course if you can’t vote, you lose the opportunity to have your say in who will represent you for the next few years, not just in the Town Hall council but also in the European Parliament.
“So we would encourage people to sign up to the electoral register, or tell us if you’ve moved – and don’t forget to apply for a postal vote if you need one. Just go to www.warrington.gov.uk/elections or email [email protected].”
Ms McCormick stressed that voters’ personal information is stored securely by the council. She added: “If you want to talk to someone about electoral registration just call 01925 442184.”
