WHEN leading organist Ian Tracey performs at Warrington’s Parr Hall on March 12 it will be the first recital to be played on the historic Cavaille-Coll organ for seven years.
Culture Warrington, who operate the Parr Hall, hope the recital will be the first of a series to be played on the organ.
The organ is one of only two Cavaille-Coll instruments in the UK still in their original condition.
It was brought to the Parr from Ketton Hall near Peterborough in
1925 and has been a main feature on the stage ever since.
The venue has hosted many concerts and recitals featuring the instrument
over the but it will be first since 2007.
Professor Ian Tracey has been organist at the Anglican Cathedral in his home city of Liverpool for more than 30 years and his performances there on the famous Willis organ have thrilled the instrument’s thousands of fans around the world and met with praise from the critics.
His career took off after studying organ at Trinity College, London, where he has now been awarded a fellowship, and he’s also studied under scholarship grants in Paris, with acclaimed French organists Andre Isoir and Jean Langlais.
In 1980 he became the youngest cathedral organist in the country and has since played most of the major venues in the UK and an increasing number in Europe. He has also made 23 extensive tours of the USA, playing in all the major cities.
The past two seasons have included concerts in New York, Seattle, San Francisco, Bermuda, Paris, Holland, Germany, Jersey and Spain and he returns again to Germany again this year.
He’s a frequent broadcaster and recording artist and has conducted more than 250 concerts with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus.
