A NEW centre for sexual health has opened at Warrington – enabling local people to access a wide range of sexual health services under one roof in the town centre.
The Warrington Centre for Sexual Health, based at the Bath Street Health and Wellbeing Centre, was launched by the Mayor, Cllr Peter Carey and Warrington Wolves players Brad Dwyer and Matthew Russell.
Members of the public were invited to find out more about the new service and also put their sexual health knowledge to the test with a fun quiz with prizes including a tablet computer and Warrington Wolves tickets.
The free and confidential new service is provided by Bridgewater Community Healthcare NHS Trust in partnership with Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Warrington Council.
Bridgewater’s clinical director Pippa Brough said: “Our friendly and approachable staff will be providing a range of services including full sexual health screenings, information on contraception, pregnancy testing and advice and cervical screenings (smear tests) as well as specialist provision on issues such as psychosexual therapy, abortion, HIV and natural family planning.
“We are also determined to support local people in the borough with sexual health issues.
“As a result we are launching a fast track Chlamydia testing scheme for under 25s and continuing the successful C Card scheme which enables 19s to sign up for sexual health advice and access to free condoms at a number of venues across the town displaying the C Card sign.
“The service also has links into Warrington’s Youth Advice Shop which provides sexual health advice for under 19s.”
Warrington Borough Council’s LEAD member for helath and wellbeing, Cllr Pat Wright added: “This centre represents a valuable development in the provision of sexual health services in Warrington.
“It offers a comprehensive range of services in a convenient central location. It’s really important that we continue to stamp out the stigma surrounding sexual health services, and providing a one-stop shop in an accessible location with friendly and approachable staff is a great way to encourage people to look after their sexual health.”
