Ageing populations face social isolation

SOUTH Warrington’s villages are facing particular challenges, arising from ageing populations and social isolation.
Many people who were once “asset rich” are now experiencing financial difficulties, particularly fuel poverty, Stockton Heath Parish Council was told.
Barbara Parratt, Warrington Borough Council’s South Area manager for neighbourhoods said other challenges included graduate unemployment and limited activities for young people.
There was also a weak transport system in certain areas and an increasing pressure on adult social care resources.
She said the South Area Board had five priorities – to reduce social isolation, increase household income and reduce child poverty, to reduce fear of crime, to improve health and wellbeing and to increase community capacity and resilience.
