Golden Square up for sale

WARRINGTON’S Golden Square shopping centre is expected to be going up for sale for an estimated £115 million.
The shopping centre is a joint venture between Lend Lease and Legal & General, called Warrington Retail Partnership, covering an area of 675,000 sq ft.
Lend Lease bought into the centre in 2005, acquiring a 50% stake for £20m from Legal & General. Warrington Borough Council also owns a stake in the centre.
At that point it was 310,000 sq ft but an extension which opened in May 2007 more than doubled the size with around 140 retailers, attracting high street brands including Debenhams and more recently Primark, making it a top 40 UK retail destination.
Footfall at Golden Square is said to be 13 million people a year.
All parties have declined to comment on the proposed sale.
