Councillor's drive against dog fouling

A WARRINGTON councillor has launched a campaign to stamp out dog fouling in his area.
Poulton North councillor Billy Lines-Rowlands (pictured) has taken the initiative after receiving numerous complaints from local residents who attend his mobile surgeries.
He said: “Residents frequently and justifiably complain about dog fouling. Responsibility lies ultimately with individual dog owners, but I will do all I can to address this problem.
“Whilst it is difficult to completely eradicate dog fouling, I want to stamp it out as much as possible. As a result, I’ve launched a campaign not only to raise awareness of the problem, but also to hold irresponsible dog owners to account.”
Cllr Lines-Rowlands is working with borough council officers to give away 100 packs of “dog poop” bags – each pack containing 50 bags.
They will be allocated on a first-come-first-serve basis, one pack per household
Council officers have welcome the idea which is seen as a good way of helping residents to make a difference in their area.
A spokesman said: “The council is happy to support this campaign and to help local residents to make a difference in their area.
“It’s important that we work with responsible dog owners and that action is taken against those who refuse to clean up after their animals.
“We would encourage all residents to help us by reporting irresponsible dog owners on 01925 443322 or via email on [email protected]
Cllr Lines-Rowlands added: “I hope this action will be met positively by residents. If we can make the slightest bit of difference, then that’s a good place to start.
“I would reiterate the council’s plea to help reduce dog fouling by reporting irresponsible owners. Our pavements and grass areas belong to our community, and it is only right that they are kept clean.”
