A WARRINGTON teenager has been jailed for six years for rape.
Adam Jones, aged 18, of Knutsford Road, was told he would also have to serve an extra four years on licence after being found guilty of one offence of rape and one of assault at Birmingham Crown Court.
He had denied the offences.
The court was told the victim was a teenage girl who was known to Jones and occurred at his home’
The assault took place in May last year when, without warning, Jones became violent with the girl, who was visiting him, and punched her to her ribs.
Then, again without warning, he punched her to the left side of her face and the force of the punch caused her to lose consciousness.
She sought medical attention shortly after and still suffers from blurred vision today
The rape took place the following month in Jones’ bedroom.
The pair were in bed together when Jones suddenly turned and raped the girl. She managed to get away by elbowing him in the face.
The incident was subsequently reported to police and an investigation was launched which led to Jones being arrested and charged.
After the hearing, DC Laura Smith, who was the officer in the case, said: “Rape is an horrific offence, which affects victims in the most profound way. In this case the sexual offence was compounded by a serious assault, which could leave the young victim with lasting injuries.
“She has been incredibly brave throughout the case and was forced to relive the incident during the trial. I would like to thank the victim for her willingness to stand up to her attacker and see him brought to justice. I hope that the conclusion of this case will give her some closure and allow her to get on with her life.”
DC Smith added: “Cheshire Police is committed to tackling sexual violence and our dedicated rape unit helps and supports victims of this type of crime.
“I hope this sentence – and the bravery shown by the victim – gives others who may have suffered in silence the courage to come forward.”
