Planners approve new bar

PLANNING bosses at Warrington have reluctantly given the go-ahead for a new licensed bar in premises which were subject to a serious fire three years ago.
Two local councillors opposed the scheme but officers recommended it for approval – and members of the planning committee agreed that it would be difficult to refuse consent.
The bar will be at first floor level above a row of shops adjoining the former Cross Bar pub in Lovely Lane, Bewsey.
Work has already started on converting a former storage area although the building has not been used since the fire in 2011.
Cllr Pat Wright and Cllr Steve Parish opposed the scheme on the grounds it would cause a noise problem for adjacent premises, there was inadequate parking space and there would be a loss of storage space for shops which already having planning consent.
They also feared there was a risk of fire.
The committee decided the scheme could go ahead subject to conditions to deal with environmental issues, parking and fire risks.
