House-in-garden plan approved

A CONTROVERSIAL plan to build a detached house with basement garage in the garden of a bungalow has been given the go-ahead by Warrington planners.
But members of the borough’s planning committee imposed a condition that obscure glass be installed in windows on a third floor in the roof space, and that the windows be kept locked.
This was to allay fears of neighbours who feared the top floor windows would rob surrounding homes of privacy.
Councillors visited the site in Hob Hey Lane, Culcheth, before coming to a decision, following objections from four neighbours and Culcheth and Glazebury Parish Council.
The parish council argued that the height and design of the building would be out of character with the area and adjacent properties and would cause overlooking and a loss of privacy.
They also believed it could add to existing traffic problems in Hob Hey Lane.
Neighbours claimed the property would effectively be a three-storey house.
But planning officers recommended the plan be approved.
They described it as a “small-scale, low impact infill development.”
