Housing association becomes dementia friendly

WARRINGTON-based social landlord Golden Gates Housing Trust (GGHT) has become the latest organisation to sign up to the Dementia Action Alliance, as it aims to become a dementia friendly service provider.
GGHT own and manage more than 8,700 homes across the borough and aims to work at the heart of local communities, trying to make a real difference to the lives of customers.
By signing up to the Dementia Action Alliance, GGHT is committed to improving the way in which it is able to support people with dementia. This will see the Trust developing tailored services to meet their needs and increasing staff awareness and understanding around dementia and the people it touches.
Key actions being developed include addressing health inequalities and dealing with the early signs or dementia in the more deprived areas of Warrington.
The Trust will also be supporting residents with dementia and their families to enable them to live full and independent lives for as long as possible.
GGHT has existing links with local organisations such as the Older People’s Forum and the Older Person’s Engagement Group and are also consulting with the Alzheimer’s Society on dementia care to produce a step-by-step guide for frontline staff to help and signpost people with dementia and their carers.
