High school in special measures after shock report

A WARRINGTON high school which only three years ago was rated as “outstanding” has been placed in special measures following an Ofsted inspection.
Parents of pupils at St Gregory’s RC High School at Great Sankey have been told the shock news in a letter from the school.
Only a few years ago, the Cromwell Avenue school was rated Warrington’s best-performing high school.
After the last Ofsted inspection in 2011 it was still considerd “outstanding.”
It is understood the inspection was carried out during December and that the full report will be published later today.
The letter send to parents states: “The school accepts the report in full.
“This is a real disappointment for the school community.”
One parent told Warrington-Worldwide today: “As a parent of a child at the school and a former pupil, my overriding feeling is one of disbelief.
“ St Gregory’s is an outstanding school with a fantastic community of staff and pupils. I await the release of the full report, but I class myself as incensed that Ofsted have taken such a view.
I know of not a single parent who was forced to send their child to St Gregory’s, the school is always
oversubscribed and with good reason.
“I count myself lucky that my daughter has a place at the school and would chain myself to the railings to secure a place for her brother in a year’s time.
A meeting has been called for parents on Thursday, February 13.
The parent – who asked not to be identified – said he would be attending the meeting to protest at the Ofsted findings.
