“Time to Talk” at market mental health event

A SPECIAL mental health initiative is set to take place at Warrington Market this Thursday, February 6.
Warrington Council and its partners will be helping a national effort to stimulate a million conversations about mental health
at the “Time to Talk Day” event.
Professionals and volunteers will be in Warrington Market on Time to Talk Day, giving out cards with examples of what people can do to improve their mental health. Market stall holders will be displaying posters with further examples. There will also be a marquee run by volunteers and professionals, as an informal place where people can talk in confidence and have access to information on a wide variety of services.
The initiative will be organised by Warrington Mental Health Forum, Mood Swings Network Warrington and Warrington Clinical Commissioning Group together with the council’s mental health outreach arts programme Creative Remedies.
Cllr Pat Wright, (pictured right) the council’s executive board member for health and wellbeing and adult services, commented today: “It would be a great step if we manage to stimulate a million conversations about mental health all over the country on Time to Talk Day.
“We hope the event will encourage people to talk more openly to others about their own or their loved ones’ mental health. Talking is a really positive way to challenge stigma and discrimination.”
Cllr Wright added: “For anyone who won’t be at the market on Thursday, Warrington Borough Council has a mental health awareness website called www.happyoksad.org.uk. It’s designed for people who currently enjoy a good level of mental health as well as those who are having problems and need immediate support. The website provides links to information about how people can improve their mental health, plus an online directory of local mental health support services, and it also says what to if you can’t cope and need help straight away.”
